Led by Kat Arredondo, the Taste of Tulsa: Exploring Innovation, Culture, and History in the Heartland short-term spring break trip offers NYU Tandon undergraduates an immersive, week-long experience in Tulsa, Oklahoma, combining cultural exploration, technological innovation, and community engagement. Through guided tours, panel discussions, and hands-on activities, students will gain insights into Tulsa's rich history, thriving industries, and equitable development efforts. The trip is fully funded for selected participants, making it accessible to all undergraduates, from freshmen to seniors.

Highlights of the Trip:

  • Cultural Exploration: Dive into Tulsa’s history with tours of the Greenwood District, Greenwood Rising, and discussions on Black Tulsa’s past and present. Explore Indigenous Tulsa through urban tours and exhibitions at Philbrook Museum.
  • Technology & Innovation: Visit cutting-edge spaces like Tulsa Innovation Labs and Skyway 36 to explore aerospace, drones, and tech entrepreneurship. Engage with experts in energy and cybersecurity at the University of Tulsa.
  • Urban Development: Discover Tulsa’s urban planning initiatives with architecture tours, panels on neighborhood development, and discussions with civic leaders.
  • Community Engagement: Connect with changemakers in Tulsa’s business, civic, and nonprofit sectors, and participate in potential service activities with local organizations.
  • Networking Opportunities: Engage with local professionals, students from the University of Tulsa, and other NYU students during events, including a sunset gathering at the renowned Gathering Place and the NYU Tulsa Opening Celebration.

Additional Information:

  • Dates: Tentatively Friday, 3/21 departure from NYC; Saturday, 3/22-Thursday, 3/27 trip activities; Friday, 3/28 return back to NYC
  • Cost: Free of charge to selected students - approximately $2,000 per student including flights, accommodations, and meals. GLASS Honors students will use their GLASS funding to cover these costs and non-GLASS students will receive funding through Tandon Global. Some charges will be paid directly by the program while others will be reimbursed to the student.
  • Eligibility: Open to all NYU undergraduates (freshmen through seniors).
  • Accommodation: Students will stay at the Holiday Inn Express, ensuring comfort throughout the trip.
